With the cold winter months now on their way out, many of us have been thinking of our summer plans. Although the allure of an exotic beach break is hard to resist, studies show that the staycation is now more popular than ever. It was recently revealed that over 90% of Brits choose to holiday at home at least once per year, meaning that the UK is a firm favourite for British holidaymakers.
Camping and walking enthusiasts will find themselves spoiled for choice, as the UK is home to a variety of beautiful campsites. We’ve put together a list of some of our favourites to give you some inspiration for your next long weekend away!
The Lake District: Baysbrown Farm, Great Langdale
First on our list is The Lake District – the most popular camping destination in Britain. This peaceful site lies below the rocks of Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and the Langdale pikes – a site that boasts some of the stunning views that the Lake District is known for. Visit the lake-free valley of Great Langdale for some escapism away from the mayhem of everyday life.
You’ll never run out of things to do in The Lake District and there really is something for everyone. The bridle pathways through the valley part the way for some fabulous bike rides that showcase the views of the famous peaks.
Argyll: Caolasnacon, Kinlochleven
If it’s beautiful views you’re after, you won’t be disappointed by Caolasnacon. Offering the opportunity to pitch your tent right by the water makes it a perfect spot for water activities, such as canoeing and kayaking, and of course, provides a constant soundtrack of lapping waves.
A nature lovers paradise, this site is also home to a variety of wildlife. Otters find habitat in the Loch, whilst golden eagles fly above. The site provides a unique opportunity for campers to get away from bustling life and enjoy the natural scenery that the Highlands offer.
North Yorkshire: Hooks House Farm, Robin Hoods Bay
North Yorkshire is the perfect camping destination for those looking for peace and quiet. Hooks House Farm boasts a high hill location looking over sloping grassy fields that lead to a breath-taking sea view. Located in the beautiful county of North Yorkshire, this campsite is the perfect starting point for those looking to take on the coast-to-coast walk across the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and the Lake District before finishing on the Cumbrian coast.
Closer to the site, you’ll find small rock pools which are perfect for fishing in and a pebble beach. Of course, you can also enjoy the sea waves in the summer months by taking a swim, or a little paddle.
Cornwall: Bay View Farm
Cornwall benefits from great summer weather and even a beach or two! The beautiful views of Bay View Farm make this campsite an ideal place to visit with your partner. Add a little romance to your camping trip by planning an outdoor picnic surrounded by lush countryside.
You won’t run out of things to do, either. The quaint fishing town of Polperro is close by with its selection of fudge shops, tea rooms and art galleries. You can even go shopping for a fresh catch of the day to cook on your BBQ that evening.
Extra tips for campers:
Campers should consider their choice of vehicle when planning a trip away. SUVs and family estate cars, such as the Ford Focus ST Estate, are ideal for camping – providing plenty of room for all your equipment. You’ll require quite a lot of equipment when you go on a camping vacation, especially if you plan for outdoor activities whilst you are there, such as canoeing, mountain biking and hiking. You’ll need plenty of space to pack everything you need into your car. We therefore recommend adding a bike rack onto your vehicle for safe transportation of your bikes, or any other outdoor equipment.
